Std.Fmt.Spec

1 declaration

type

Spec

This declaration introduces a public type.

What it does

The decisions about how a value is shaped, held as a value.

Std.Out settles how output is written; this settles what it is written

from. The two are the same idea applied twice: the decisions are made once,

given a name, and handed to whatever does the work, rather than assembled at

each call out of padding helpers.

There is no format string here and nothing is parsed at run time. A spec is

a value the checker sees, so a width that is not a number or an alignment

that is not one of the three is a type error rather than a line that comes

out wrong.

The defaults shape nothing: a width of zero, left alignment, a space to fill

with, no forced sign, and no grouping. Every builder answers a new spec and

leaves the one it was given alone.
